The method involves moving sensitive surfaces of a sensor (12) against a wiping element or spraying fluid on the surfaces or applying vibrations at the surfaces and the sensor or a component connected with the sensor for actively cleaning the surfaces at uniform distances. The fluid is sprayed on the surfaces by a nozzle arranged in an area of the surfaces, and the vibrations are produced by a frequency generator and/or a vibrator that is arranged in an area of a fastening element of the sensor.
