PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a focus detecting device capable of highly accurately detecting a focus point even when an object has a periodical pattern. SOLUTION: The focus detecting device includes: a focus detection unit for detecting a focus state of an optical system based on an image picked up by the optical system; and an optical element for warping the image picked up by the optical system, with the optical element being provided in an optical path between the optical system and the focus detection unit.
