<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve an image display apparatus which effectively obtains an effect of suppressing the blur of a moving image caused by pseudo-impulse drive, and also, reduces the problem of a flicker caused by the pseudo-impulse drive. <P>SOLUTION: In a first display mode, a first tone conversion circuit (34) and a second tone conversion circuit (35) of a control LSI (30) time-divide one-frame period of an input image signal into a plurality of sub-frame periods and output them to a display panel, thereby performing image display by time-division drive (pseudo-impulse driving). In a second display mode, the control LSI (30) outputs the input image signal as it is to the display panel, thereby performing image display by hold drive.
