<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a satellite signal receiver that improves reception sensitivity even by a small device and suppress an increase in power consumption, and to provide a method of controlling the same. <P>SOLUTION: A wrist watch 3 with a GPS includes a GPS antenna 27, an LNA 28 as a signal amplification means, a reception part 30, a time display unit 80, and a power supply unit 90. The reception part 30 includes a GPS signal processor 60 having a signal amplification means for controlling the LNA 28. The signal amplification control means outputs an OFF signal to a control signal input terminal when the reception mode is time measuring mode, to control the LNA 28 to keep halted.
