PURPOSE: A device and a method for measuring a length change using a steel wire are provided to reduce the size of the measuring device by using a transducer with a smaller diameter than a wheel. CONSTITUTION: A device(1) for measuring a length change using a steel wire comprises a steel wire(11) and a length measuring device. One end of the steel wire is connected to the ground, and the other end is extended to a measuring wheel(24) of the length measuring device. The length measuring device generates an electric signal corresponding to the length change of the steel wire. The length measuring device comprises the measuring wheel, weights(19,19a,19b), and a signal converter(30). The measuring wheel is connected to the other end of the steel wire. The weights apply tensile force to the measuring force.
