PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve high cushioning property and fitness while demonstrating a lumbar support function relating to a backrest of a chair. SOLUTION: The backrest 5 includes a back plate 8 made of a synthetic resin and a back frame 7 to which the back plate is attached. The back plate 8 has a lumbar support portion 8b projecting foremost, a part above the lumbar support portion 8b is fixed to the back frame 7, and thus a part including the lumbar support portion 8b of the back plate 8 is served as an overhung portion 8a in a cantilever shape.
