<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a color filter which dissolves the problem of a wavelength dispersion characteristic of a refractive index about both a retardation layer and a liquid crystal layer for driving and to provide a liquid crystal display apparatus equipped with the color filter. <P>SOLUTION: The color filter includes a base material having light translucency, a color filter layer comprising two or more colored layers having different thickness and the retardation layer for producing retardation in incident light. The method for manufacturing the color filter includes a color filter layer forming process for providing color layers having different thickness directly or indirectly onto the base material and a retardation layer forming process for forming the retardation layer having structure constituted by polymerizing a liquid crystal compound included in a liquid crystal coating film by applying a liquid crystal composition containing a liquid crystal compound having a polymerizable functional group direct or indirectly onto the base material to form a liquid crystal coating film, aligning the liquid crystal compound included in the liquid crystal coating film in a predetermined direction and irradiating the liquid crystal coating film with active radiation via a photomask. In the retardation layer forming process, a halftone mask is used as the photomask. The color filter layer forming process and the retardation layer forming process are carried out so that after performance of both processes, a level difference part with predetermined size of >0.1 μm is formed between adjacent lamination structure forming regions or at a boundary position by a part where the lamination structure of the retardation layer and the color layer exist in a region at an outermost surface of the color filter and further by the lamination structure forming region formed at each colored layer having different thickness. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT |
