The polymers contg. repeating units of formula:- (where X = NH or N-acyl), are made by reaction of diisocyanates with HCN is solvent and a basic N-contg. or an Sn, Pb or P-contg. org. catalyst at 10-25 degrees C. The polymers have a wide variety of props depending on their compsn. and m. wt., and are suitable for use as fibres, films, foams, moulded articles and in electrical insulators.
