A vascular compression apparatus for applying pressure to tissue in proximity to a puncture site and a blood vessel, comprises a handle 14, a shaft 12 extending generally perpendicularly from the handle 14, and a rigid pad 11 having a top side 19 and a convex bottom side 18, which makes contact with the body surface. The device is configured to allow the user to rock the convex pad 11 proximally and distally.
