<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device and a display method for allowing a user to clearly recognize an arrangement position state of each content, when a plurality of contents exist and a plurality of categories exist. <P>SOLUTION: The display device includes a display mode control portion, an arrangement determination portion, an arrangement change portion, and a boundary line displaying portion. The display mode control portion controls screen transition among a full screen display mode, a multiple content display mode, and a panel display mode. At the full screen display mode, an image is displayed on the whole screen of a display portion. At the multiple content display mode, a plurality of thumbnail images about the content are displayed on the screen. At the panel display mode, a panel displaying information about the content is displayed on the screen. For every category to which each content belongs, the arrangement determination portion arranges a plurality of thumbnail images displayed at the multiple content display mode. The arrangement change portion changes arrangement of the plurality of thumbnail images by operation of a user. Before the arrangement of thumbnail images is changed by the operation of the user, the boundary line displaying portion displays a boundary line indicative of difference in category between two thumbnail images.
