<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide drive unit for a vehicle and a drive method of a vehicle. <P>SOLUTION: This invention relates to the drive unit for the vehicle which comprises two electric motors 2, 3 connected to each other via a planetary gear device 6, and a shaft drive unit 10 which is connected to the planetary gear device 6 and drives wheels, and in which a drive shaft 4 for a sun gear 7 of the planetary gear device 6 is connected to the first electric motor 2, and a drive shaft 5 for an internal tooth gear 8 of the planetary gear device 6 is connected to the second electric motor 3. In a method for driving the wheels, the sun gear 7 and the internal tooth gear 8 are rotated in mutual opposite directions at starting phases. Thereby, the electric motor is operated in a characteristic map region having raised torque prior to its start.
