PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain irradiation with high luminescent efficiency, when using a curing material containing a photoinitiator having an absorption wavelength range, in short wavelength ultraviolet rays of 220-300 nm as an irradiation object. SOLUTION: A mercury lamp includes an arc tube 11 made of an ultraviolet ray transmitting material; a pair of electrodes 121, 122 made of a fire-resistant metal enclosed inside the arc tube 11; and a sufficient amount of rare gas and mercury to maintain arc discharge in the arc tube 11 sealed in the lamp. The potential gradient D (V/cm) of this mercury lamp during stable lighting is set to be 14<D<25. As a result, ultraviolet rays having high luminous efficiency can be obtained in a wavelength range of 220-300 nm. When irradiating ultraviolet rays of this mercury lamp to a curing agent, containing photoinitiator that has absorption wavelength range between 220-300 nm, the curing speed of the curing agent can be increased.
