<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lithium secondary battery having an oxide-based electrode and improved in charge/discharge characteristics. <P>SOLUTION: The lithium secondary battery includes a positive electrode, a negative electrode and a nonaqueous electrolyte. At least one of the positive electrode and the negative electrode is the oxide-based electrode performing a reaction of reducing an oxide of a transition metal to form lithium oxide and its reverse reaction as electrode reactions associated with charge and discharge.
