A bandwidth allocation method and an optical line terminal (OLT) are provided by the present invention, and the method for the OLT to allocate bandwidth to an optical network unit (ONU) includes: estimating the input traffic of the ONU according to the information from the ONU (S302); setting an input traffic jump signal (S304), wherein the input traffic jump signal is used for indicating the change of the input traffic of the ONU between two contiguous dynamic bandwidth allocation (DBA) periods; allocating the bandwidth for the ONU according to the input traffic of the ONU and the input traffic jump signal (S306). With the present invention, the steady bandwidth allocation, the well transmission delay and the abundant usage of uplink bandwidth can be obtained. |
