R 1>H or Me; R fperfluoroalkyl radical of formula CF 3-(CF 2) x-CF 2-; x : 2-22; and n : 2-6, preferably 2. #CMT#[Image]#/CMT# #CMT#USE : #/CMT# Copolymer for preparing aqueous dispersion used in the treatment of fiber materials, e.g. woven, knitted, or nonwoven polyolefin (preferably polypropylene) fabric (claimed) for use in medical or automobile field. #CMT#ADVANTAGE : #/CMT# Treatment of fiber materials with the copolymer imparts soft feel and excellent oil, water and low molecular weight alcohol (e.g. isopropanol) repellent properties to the treated fabric. Treatment with the copolymer also imparts favorable properties with regard to temperature-induced yellowing and thermo-migration to fiber materials. #CMT#POLYMERS : #/CMT# Preparation (Disclosed): The copolymer is prepared by free-radical polymerization of monomers at 20-70 deg C either in solvent or dispersant or without using solvent/dispersant. Preferred Components: The copolymer further comprises copolymerized unit(s) from monomers of formulae CH 2=C(R 1>)-C(O)-NH-CH 2-OH (V), CH 2=C(R 1>)-C(O)-OC tH 2t+1 (VI), CH 2=C(R 1>)-C(O)-OC 4H 9 (VII), and C tH 2t+1-SH (VIII). t : 8-24. Preferred Composition: The copolymer comprises (mol%) units from monomer (I) (35-55, preferably 42-50); units from monomer (II) (8-55, preferably 20-45); units from monomer (III) (8-42, preferably 8-32); units from monomer (IV) (4-18, preferably 4-12); units from monomer (V) (3-16, preferably 5-12); units from monomer (VI) (4-16, preferably 6-13); and units from monomer (VII) (3-16, preferably 5-11). #CMT#EXAMPLE : #/CMT# Solution of ethoxylated isotridecyl alcohol (12 EO, 20 g) in water (330 g), dipropylene glycol (55 g), acrylate ester containing perfluoroalkyl groups (monomer I, 170 g), methacrylate of long-chain alcohol (15 g), n-dodecyl mercaptan (monomer VIII) (2 g), solution of N-methylolacrylamide in water (monomer V, 10%, 19 g), n-butyl acrylate (monomer VII) (5 g), diester of dihydric alcohol (5 g), styrene (monomer II) (10 g), silicone oil (11 g), and 3-chloro-2-hydroxypropyl methacrylate (monomer IV, 5 g) were mixed, stirred at /~60 deg C for 1 minute, homogenized at 250 bar and 60 deg C, cooled, and transferred to an autoclave. Azo compound (3 g) and vinylidene chloride (monomer III, 10 g) were sequentially added. The mixture was heated to 65 deg C for 30 minutes and stirred at this temperature for 8 hours to obtain stable transparent dispersion with fluorine content of 13.9 wt.%.
