<p>PURPOSE: A device and a method for determining a type of an accessory in a portable terminal are provided to adjust power supply timing of an ADC block which determines a type of an accessory connected to an earphone terminal. CONSTITUTION: A switching unit(102) comprises an ADC(Analog to Digital Converter) power source(104), an ADC(106), and an accessory determining unit(108). When the connection of an accessory is confirmed, the ADC power source supplies power for an ADC operation. After the type of the accessory is determined, the ADC power source stops power supply for the ADC operation. The ADC converts a signal generated by connection to the accessory into a digital signal. The accessory determining unit determines a type of the connected accessory using the digital signal.</p> |
