PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coal modifying method which is performed by changing the characteristic values (particularly flowability) possessed by coal to increase the freedom of compounding design of coal in producing coke and thereby does not increase the raw material cost of a coal blend to enable the enhancement of the strength of coke produced. SOLUTION: The coal modifying method comprises conducting the treatment at high temperatures and high pressures to change the flowability of the coal to be used as a blast furnace coke raw material.
