Within one example embodiment there is no need to index all of the content available in a particular data space, such as the content on a particular device, group of devices, network, group of networks, or, at the extreme end, the Internet. This is because often a user does not care about results in many areas which he or she knows nothing about, and instead is interested in results which he knows about (or suspects about) in advance, or which are of a certain category. To provide such functionality, therefore, within an example embodiment a service that generates/receives content "opts in" to the search indexing, and only content belonging to a service that is opted in is indexed. This addresses the above problem that the user often does not care about searching certain categories of content, such as system files and the like.
|
