PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a time lag between a depression of a release button and actual photographing. SOLUTION: A setting means is provided for setting the priority order of an operation request associated with a photographing operation, and a foreign matter removing operation performed by foreign matter removing means. Thus in the case where an operation request (S302) associated with a photographing operation is received during a foreign matter removing operation for removing foreign matters adhering to or near an imaging element, it is decided whether to stop the foreign matter removing operation and immediately start photographing, or to continue the foreign matter removing operation, according to the set priority order.
