The present invention relates to a combustion "pack" to be arranged transversely on two andirons providing, per se, for a safe and rapid lighting and the long-lasting maintenance of a blaze in the hearth of a fireplace for example. This combustion pack is characterised in that it consists of a stack, inside a highly inflammable container 1, of combustible material of density increasing from the bottom upwards, comprising, in the bottom zone, the lightest elements 2, supporting at least one layer 3 of at least one material of medium density on which rests an upper layer 4 of at least one heavy material, so that a simple match is sufficient for successively setting fire to the wrapping 1, which is used as an initiator for setting the lower layer 2 of small density ablaze, which easily sets fire to the next layer 3, and this process continues up to the upper blaze-maintaining layer 4. <IMAGE>
