A process for the production of crystalline carotene from algae vegetating in saline lakes can be used, in particular, in pharmacology and food industry. The process involves concentration of algae from brine by flotation, precipitation thereof using potassium hydroxide solution and treatment with ultrasonic vibrations; separation of the precipitate, washing with distilled water, removal of water after washing, washing and dewatering of precipitate using acetone and organic solvent, additional dewatering by microwave drying in neutral gas medium; carotene extracting from obtained concentrate with carbon dioxide at extragent recirculation; carotene crystallization while mixing extract with acetone; separation of crystalline carotene by filtration at excess pressure in compressed nitrogen medium followed by drying under vacuum. |
