Provided is a peptide which is capable of repressing transcription in a plant and which can be used in the CRES-T (a simple and widely applicable means for repressing gene transcription), the peptide including an amino acid sequence represented by formula (I): X1-X2-Leu-Phe-Gly-Val-X3, where each of X1 and X3 independently represents an amino acid sequence consisting of any 1 to 10 amino acids, and X2 represents Lys or Arg. Also provided is a gene encoding the peptide.
