PURPOSE:To wash off an Al compound from a polymer containing an Al compound as an impurity in good efficiency, by dissolving the polymer in a solvent which can dissolve the polymer but is not miscible with water and contacting the obtained solution with an aqueous ammonium sulfate solution. CONSTITUTION:A polymer produced with a catalyst containing an aluminum compound such as ethylaluminum or aluminum chloride and containing an aluminum compound as an impurity is dissolved in a solvent (e.g., toluene) which can dissolve the polymer but is not miscible with water. To this solution is added an aqueous ammonium sulfate solution, and the mixture is agitated, washed and left to effect separation into an aqueous ammonium sulfate solution and a polymer solution. The aqueous ammonium sulfate solution layer is removed, and the solvent is removed from the polymer solution to obtain a polymer containing no aluminum compound.
