Disclosed is a method for producing a thiabenzoazulene propionic acid derivative which is useful as the active ingredient of an antihistaminic agent or the like. According to this production method, a thiabenzoazulene propionic acid derivative, wherein a thiabenzoazulene skeleton is substituted by propionic acid at the 2-position, can be produced. The thiabenzoazulene propionic acid derivative thus synthesized has potent histamine H1 receptor antagonism and low intracerebral transfer and, therefore, is useful as the active ingredient of a medicinal composition such as an antihistaminic agent.
