PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent deterioration of efficiency caused by the fact that only one handrail on one side is actually used though handrails which can be raised/laid are disposed on both sides of a toilet bowl; to simplify the structure and to reduce the cost by enabling only one handrail on one side to be raised/laid. SOLUTION: The handrail device for the toilet includes supports set on the right and left sides of the toilet bowl to support right and left handrails. In the handrail device, one handrail is fixed, and the other handrail is turned around a support shaft disposed in the lateral direction of the support so that the attitude of the handrail can be changed between an open attitude to open a side of the toilet bowl and a use attitude to be horizontally laid to be used as a handrail.
