Disclosed is a road shape recognition device capable of accurately recognizing the shape of a road existing ahead in the traveling direction of the vehicle. The road shape recognition device (1) detects the area of the road on the basis of the captured image of the front side in the traveling direction of the vehicle and estimates the shape of the road on the basis of the area of the road. This enables to accurately recognize the shape of the road from the vicinity to a distance.
