<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To remove foreign matters fixed to the surface of an evenly heating roller, in a fixing device in which the evenly heating roller makes the temperature distributions of a fixing rotator and pressure rotator in the direction of a rotary shaft even. <P>SOLUTION: The outermost layer of the evenly heating roller 7 is used as a release layer 72. A brush roller 8 for cleaning the surface of the evenly heating roller 7 is provided. The temperature of the evenly heating roller 7 is made to be higher than the melting temperature of toner. The brush roller 8 is rotated and driven to clean the surface of the evenly heating roller 7.
