PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a ceramic heater capable of well preventing degradation of resistive heating element and with high durability, even in case of use at high temperature continuously or intermittently for a long time. SOLUTION: The ceramic heater includes ceramic base bodies 1a, 1b made of ceramics and an exothermic part 2 fitted inside the ceramic base bodies 1a, 1b with at least a resistive heating element embedded. The ceramics contain 88 to 96 wt.% of Al<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>, 3 to 10 wt.% of SiO<SB>2</SB>, 1 to 2 wt.% of CaO, and 0.01 to 0.5 wt.% of oxide of Mg, and that, a weight ratio of the SiO<SB>2</SB>to the CaO is to be 1.5 or more and less than 3.5.
