Known are side channel blowers with devices for minimizing noise emissions, but these are in most cases not sufficient and restrict the volume stream to be conveyed. The invention therefore proposes a side channel blower having a recess which is formed before the inlet region (8) at the interruption region (28) in the direction of rotation of the impeller (4) and is fluidically connected to the inlet region (8). According to the invention, the depth of the recess (52) increases from the upper edge (54) of the interruption region (28), which faces the impeller (4), towards the inlet region (8). A further noise reduction can be realized by means of such an embodiment while the conveyed volume stream is increased.
