<p>A patient face interface (mask) for long period respiratory assistance is provided with an inflatable bladder to contact the face of the patient and which is pressurized to a pressure that exceeds the instantaneous pressure applied to the interior of the interface (for breathing by the patient) by a small positive amount so that the interface seals comfortably to the patient's face irrespective of the instantaneous pressure applied to the interior of the interface. The side wall of the bladder is thinner in the face contacting region 15 than in the regions b, c of the bladder that do not come in contact with the face of the patient.</p> |
