Method and system for solubilizing protein

A method of solubilizing protein including adding an alkali, such as lime, and heating to produce a reaction liquid then separating solids from the reaction liquid followed by neutralizing the reaction liquid to produce a neutralized liquid. The method then includes concentrating the neutralized liquid and returning water to the reaction. The disclosure also includes systems for conducting such a method.
