摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for operating an electric furnace for smelting a ferro-nickel, in which a refractory in the electric furnace can be protected while the heat-loading onto the furnace body is kept constant and the coating-thickness is kept constant, corresponding to the variation in the operational factor, such as the increase or decrease of the treating amount and the variation of the slag-composition when the ore-melting treatment is performed on the operational condition under high loading in the electric furnace and heat-generation due to molten slag resistance is used as the main heat source for keeping the temperature in the furnace.SOLUTION: In the method for operating the electric furnace for smelting the ferro-nickel, with which sintered ore 4 is melted by making the electric current flow into slag layer 2 and metal layer 1 through electrodes 3, the furnace resistance (R) satisfying the following formula (1)... R(mΩ)=(1000/3)×Electric power(MW)/{-0.3×the electric power(MW)+35}is previously obtained according to the increase or decrease of the electric power, and a setting value of the furnace resistance is changed by using the furnace resistance (R) and the electrode positions are automatically controlled so as to keep the setting value.
