PURPOSE: An automatic transmission is provided to improve the quality of a shift by performing the slip and recombination operations of a friction coupling element in the release side of a transmission. CONSTITUTION: An automatic transmission(4) changes the rotation speed of an engine. A transmission device(30) selectively couples a plurality of friction coupling elements. A transmission controller(12) controls the transmission device. The transmission device slips a friction coupling element(32) in the release side by reducing the coupling pressure of the friction coupling element. The transmission device re-couples the friction coupling element in the release side by increasing the coupling pressure of a friction coupling element(33) in the coupling side. |
