PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electromagnetic starter which triggers a high voltage and holds energization with a low voltage to reduce an electrical quantity required for maintaining energization.SOLUTION: An electric energy of higher voltage is input into a power supply 100 of variable output voltage by controlling a drive coil 102' installed in an electromagnetic starter 102 through a switch device 101. By energizing and activating the drive coil 102', the electromagnetic starter 102 is caused to generate an active force of with a larger electromagnetic effect. After activation thereof, control of the switch is further erformed to output the electric energy of lower voltage from the power supply 100. By holding an exciting energization to the drive coil 102', the total current of the drive coil 102' is reduced. Meanwhile, the operation characteristic required by the electromagnetic starter 102 after starting of energization is still satisfied to save electric energy and reduce thermal loss. |
