PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display for reducing speckle noises with a compact and simple configuration, and to provide a projector.SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display 10, which modulates a laser beam emitted from a laser beam source according to an image signal, has: a liquid crystal layer 13; aperture parts 20 passing the laser beam going to the liquid crystal layer 13; and light shielding parts 19 provided on the periphery of the aperture parts 20 on the reference surface in which the aperture parts 20 are arranged side by side and shielding the beam. Wherein, a part of the light shielding parts 19 functions as a returning light generating means reflecting a part of the laser beam going toward the liquid crystal layer 13 to make the laser beam reach the laser beam source. |
