PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for preparing lactic acid and/or a lactate salt from a pentose-containing substrate, particularly xylose-containing substrate.SOLUTION: The method for preparing lactic acid and/or a lactate salt by anaerobic fermentation of the pentose-containing substrate, more specifically xylose, using moderately thermophilic bacillus species living in certain nature is provided. In addition, the method for producing lactic acid and/or the lactate salt by fermentation using a mixture of moderately thermophilic bacillus species and other lactic acid-preparing microorganisms is also provided. |
