LIQUID-CRYSTAL COATING FLUID AND POLARIZING FILM

In a polarizing film formed by casting a liquid-crystal coating fluid containing a conventional azo compound, fine crystals separate out in the film during drying, so that the resulting film has a larger haze (light scattering) and thus exhibits poor transparency. Provided is a liquid-crystal coating fluid which comprises both an azo compound represented by general formula (1) and a solvent which can dissolve the azo compound. In general formula (1), Q1 is optionally substituted aryl; Q2 is optionally substituted arylene; R is a hydrogen atom, C1-3 alkyl, acetyl, benzoyl, or optionally substituted phenyl; and M is a counter ion.
