Disclosed is a position detection device for a movable magnet type linear motor, which is capable of detecting the position of a movable element at the side of a fixed element and has high detection accuracy. The position detection device is a device for detecting the position of a movable element (3) in a movable magnet type linear motor comprising a fixed element (2) constituted by arranging a plurality of coils in one direction and a movable element (3) having a permanent magnet arranged facing the fixed element (2). The position detection device is provided with a magnetic body (5) fixed to the movable element (3), selects one or a plurality of coils and applies voltage to the coil(s) in question, and measures the current or voltage induced in a coil adjacent to the coil(s) in question. The position detection device then calculates, from the measured current or voltage, the position of the magnetic body (5), which varies according to the position of the movable element (3). |
