PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology for reducing the amount of coloring material used for dot recording without excessively degrading image quality.SOLUTION: Dot recording regions DT taken up by continuous dots in M-rows and N-columns associating the number of dots N of each row with the M-rows corresponding to a path number M of a continuous main scanning path are set as processing units. The dot recording order of MxN dots in the dot recording regions DT is set to the order of path numbers from the first path number of the main scanning path in the dot recording regions DT so that the dot recording order in the dot recording regions DT is not continuous over one column in an auxiliary scanning direction. Thinning processing is then carried out in the order of the path numbers corresponding to the dot recording order on one or more dots in the MxN dots in the dot recording regions DT.
