PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To butt splice two beveled end face optical fibers by aligning bevel directions of the beveled faces with each other.SOLUTION: In the method of splicing beveled end face optical fibers, the beveled end face optical fibers 11a having a beveled end face 11c are but spliced in a centering groove of a splicing mechanism (mechanical splicing) 4. The optical fibers are beveled by holding coated optical fibers 11 in an optical fiber holder 13 when two beveled end face optical fibers 11a to be butt-spliced are obtained. The two beveled end face optical fibers 11a obtained by the beveling process are held in the optical fiber holder 13 in beveling, and butt-spliced in the centering groove of the splicing mechanism 4. The optical fibers are butt spliced in beveling while being held in the optical fiber holder 13, thus the bevel directions of the beveled end faces of the two beveled end face optical fibers are automatically aligned with each other. |
