PURPOSE: An apparatus for transmitting a digital broadcast signal is provided to supply a closed caption by open cable and cable ready standards, thereby increasing convenience of a user. CONSTITUTION: A multiplexing unit multiplexes video data, audio data, and auxiliary data by an MPEG-2 transport stream. An EIT(Event Information Table) or a PMT(Program Map Table) of the auxiliary data comprises a caption descriptor. The caption descriptor comprises caption information, information about a caption service number, and information about an identification number of a caption service. A transmitting unit modulates the multiplexed MPEG-2 transport stream into a broadcast signal.
