The method involves recording camera images at different times by cameras (2, 3) that are arranged in a vehicle (1). An optical flow is determined from the recorded camera images, and a movement data of the vehicle is determined from the determined optical flow. A stored camera image is determined based on the determined movement data, and environmental areas (6, 7) are detected in the stored camera image. Image area of the stored camera image for imaging the areas is determined and utilized for producing representation of the areas.
