Reverse out valve 400 comprising; mandrel 434 slidably disposed within an outer housing 402 with a bypass region 426 between them. Mandrel 434 having a central flow path 450 with a flow control element 454 therein. First 444 and second 446 side wall ports positioned on opposite sides of a fluid flow control element. The mandrel is axially movable relative to the outer housing between first and second positions. In the first position flow can bypass the fluid control element through first and second side wall ports. In the second position bypass flow is prevented. An axial force generator 456 is between the outer housing and mandrel urges the mandrel towards the first position from the second. Axial lock provided by members 420/440 prevents relative movement of the mandrel and housing when the mandrel is in the second position. The outer housing may include an indicating collet 408.
