<p>Provided is a steel wire containing, by mass, 0.7-1.2% carbon, 0.05-2.0% silicon, and 0.2-2.0% manganese, with the remainder comprising iron and unavoidable impurities. Said steel wire has a pearlite structure, a mean carbon concentration by mass of at most 0.2% in the central part of an outermost ferrite layer, and a residual compressive stress in the lengthwise direction of the wire of at least 600 MPa in said outermost layer.</p> |
