A method for estimating the load of clothes in a household tumble dryer, such dryer being provided with a contact band for a moisture measuring circuit, comprises monitoring a parameter linked to the degree of clothes dryness vs. time, for instance the conductivity value vs. time, and estimating the load of clothes by analysing the dynamic behaviour of the conductivity value.
