PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polymerizable compound-containing liquid crystal composition which is a liquid crystal composition containing a polymerizable compound having the reduced residual amount of the polymerizable compound even when polymerization is carried out without using a photopolymerization initiator or by using an extremely small amount of an initiator, to provide a polymerizable compound-containing liquid crystal composition in which the polymerizable compound and the liquid crystal material are favorably made compatible with each other and aligning property after polymerization is further stabilized, preventing troubles in display characteristics, and further, to provide a liquid crystal display element imparted with liquid crystal aligning ability and having excellent display performance by polymerization of the polymerizable compound-containing liquid crystal composition. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal composition contains, as a first component, a polymerizable compound expressed by general formula (I).
