PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gateway device which attains a facsimile communication on a public network, and can store image data incapable of being transmitted and received in the facsimile communication with less hardware configuration. SOLUTION: A path switching part 101 of the gateway device 100 transmits facsimile data received from FAX equipment 200 to the outside of the gateway device 100 (self-equipment), or accumulates the facsimile data in an image memory 107. The path switching part 101 determines whether or not a telephone number of a destination included in the facsimile data is a facsimile number of the self-equipment, and when it is determined that the telephone number is not the facsimile number of the self-equipment, transmits the data to the outside corresponding to the telephone number of the destination. When the telephone number is the facsimile number of the self-equipment, a voice signal received as the facsimile data is stored in the image memory 107 after converting the voice signal into digital data by a FAX modem 105.
