<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a switching method and a switching device that provide temporal stability. <P>SOLUTION: The problem to be solved is solved by the switching method of using a low-dimensional material 4 whose crystal structure reversibly changes through tensile stress application and tensile stress release, and of varying electric conductivity based upon the reversible change of the crystal structure by applying tensile stress to the low-dimensional material 4 and releasing the tensile stress application to cause the variation in electric conductivity as a switching operation. Further, the switching device 10 includes a tensile stress generation body 3 provided between a pair of electrodes 2, 2 and the low-dimensional material 4 provided across over the electrodes 2, 2, wherein the low-dimensional material 4 varies in electric conductivity as its crystal structure reversibly changes through the tensile stress application and tensile stress release and the tensile stress generation body 3 applies the tensile stress to the low-dimensional material 4 and releases the tensile stress application through displacement using piezoelectric characteristics or thermal expansion characteristics. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT |
