PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer capable of efficiently preventing trouble such as faulty ejection. SOLUTION: The printer includes a head for ejecting a plurality of color inks to a medium, the head which is selectively filled with a white ink and a clear ink, and a controller which performs switching from a second filling state where the head is filled with the clear ink to a first filling state where the head is filled with the white ink after a power source is turned on, wherein the controller obtains information on the time when the head is left as it is, and performs switching after performing processing of inspection cleaning that faulty ejection of the head is inspected and the head is cleaned if the faulty ejection is detected by consuming the clear ink if the time when the head is left as it is longer than the time of a predetermined value, and performs switching without performing the processing of inspection cleaning by consuming the clear ink if the time when the head is left as it is shorter than the time of the predetermined value.
