<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device which does not require for a user to adjust the display conditions or change the settings and can provide natural, smooth, and comfortable use environment in an information appliance to conduct processing on displayed information with an input tool, and a method for controlling the display device. <P>SOLUTION: The display device includes a display surface to display information and input information with the instructions from an input tool and a controlling means to control the display of the information on the display surface, and recognizes whether the input pen is an electronic input pen to electronically input information or a handwriting input pen to leave handwriting on the display surface. When the input pen, which specifies the display surface according to the recognition result, is recognized as the electronic input pen, the amount of projection light to display the information on the display surface is decreased. Furthermore, the display device is controlled so as not to add handwriting with the handwriting input pen to the information displayed on the display surface when the recognition result shows that the input pen is recognized as the handwriting input pen, and to add handwriting with the handwriting input pen when the handwriting with the handwriting input pen is erased. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT</p> |
